TOMMY
GOLDSCHMIDT
|
On
March 3rd, 1949, in La Paz (Bolivia), Mrs. Goldschmidt gave birth to a
future founding member of Karthago. The genes she passed on to her son
definitely contained a lot of musicality. That's why Tommy Goldschmidt
picked up his first guitar at age 9.
As
a teenager, Tommy developed serious interest in percussion. Since he
didn't own Congas at that time, he used classroom tables. The teacher
couldn't stop Tommy even by throwing key chains at him.
He
was 14 years old when he came to Germany in 1963. While listening to the
Beatles, Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix and the Doobie Brothers, Tommy got
more into drumming and percussion playing. His intention was to make a
living in the business of music. So the case was settled early on.
During
a rehearsal Tommy had with a Berlin-based Jazz-Rock group, Joey Albrecht
came along one day. He hired the gifted drummer for his brand new project.
Karthago needed a drumming and percussion genius with a Rock and Latin
background.
In
the 80ies and 90ies, Tommy joined Rolo Rodriguez (who had not yet been a
Karthago member) and other fellow musicians in several bands. Among them
were "Salsanco", "Arakontis", the "Paradise
Island Band" as well as "Supersession", the "Release
Music Orchestra", "Carsten Bohn's Bandstand" and "Bugaloo".
In
2003, Tommy immediately agreed to the idea of a Karthago revival: "Playing
music on a high quality level with my fellow band members is a welcomed
challenge to me. And I love touring more than ever!".
